Restricted Licenses

Time-Limitation

Licenses can be subject to a time-limitation, meaning that they are only valid until a particular date. This limitation applies to the license as such, i.e. to all of the components it covers. It is not permitted to continue to use CMS Fiona after this expiration date, in fact the software will then no longer work with this license. In the license file, the time-limitation is effected by means of the expirationDate XML element. The date contained in it has the format YYYY-MM-DD.

Writing Limitation

Furthermore, licenses can also be restricted with respect to the number of permitted write operations. This limitation only affects the Content Management Server.

The Content Management Server performs write operations whenever entities such as files, versions, and links, but also workflows, jobs etc., are created or modified. The purpose of such a limitation is to ensure that test or demo licenses are only used to their respective end.

The maximum ID is specified in the cmIdLimit subelement of the license file. The first write operation is performed when the base folder is created. Its ID is 2001 so that 32000 needs to be entered as the value of cmIdLimit, for example, if a maximum of 30,000 IDs (i. e. write operations) are to be permitted. If unlimited is specified as the value of cmIdLimit, then the license is unlimited with respect to IDs.

If the ID specified in cmIdLimit is exceeded, the Content Management Server switches to read-only mode, i. e. files etc. can no longer be created. The ID limitation (the maximum permitted ID) as well as the remaining number of IDs can be queried with Tcl by reading the licenseManager parameters idLimit and remainingIds, respectively.

Dump and Restore

The data of the Content Management Server can be saved using the dump command. When such data is read into an ID-limited Content Manager by means of restore, error messages will be produced as soon as the largest permitted ID is exceeded. This will cause the restoration procedure to be aborted. It can only be resumed after a license with no ID limitation or more permitted write operations has been installed.
