Creating, Changing or Deleting a Role

As with users, roles can be created and accessed in the System Settings section. A role has a name and a description. The latter helps administrators to better understand the tasks of a role.

Select the option Imported membership for imported users if this role is to be assigned to an imported user, provided that the role is included in the user’s roles specification in the import file.

The most important properties of a role are its access permissions since the selected ones (and only these) are given to all users to whom this role was or will be assigned. Select the permissions as desired and click Create to create the role. After the role was created, its details view is displayed:

The details view is also displayed after selecting the role from the list of roles. The role details view has the following menu commands:

  • Edit: Change the description and permission assignment of the role.

  • Delete: This deletes the role. Users to whom this role is currently assigned will lose the permissions granted to the role.

By means of the Permissions and Membership tabs you can edit the permissions to be given to the users, and, respectively, specify the users who should have this role (unless the users are determined by means of an LDAP user group).
