Notes on Upgrading

General Notes for all Platforms

For performing a data migration in the process of upgrading the CMS from version 6.0.1 or later to 6.5.0, please refer to the inplace migration section in the System Administration / Developement documentation.

Please note: The new Inplace Migration Feature for Installations that use Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) as the database will be available with CMS Fiona 6.5.1 (Planned release date: 2007-05-14). If you want to migrate before that date using the current version 6.5.0, please use the standard dump/restore functionality.

With CMS versions prior to 6.0.1 the data can be taken over into the new version using the dump/restore procedure.

It is absolutely necessary to make a complete backup before upgrading. Furthermore, an upgrade must not be made while the CMS is in operation. This means that all CMS processes must have been terminated properly.

When using a Sybase Database in a version below 15, please read the note on configuring the network packet size contained in the section about server-side system requirements of the Installation documentation.

Please note that for the server installation of CMS Fiona 6.5 we recommend the Java SDK 5.

Upgrading under Linux and Solaris

For upgrading under Linux and Solaris, please proceed as described in section Migration in the System Administration / Developement documentation.
